There are hundreds of Spanish words that have been adopted into the English language that are used daily especially when it comes to food (e.g., taco, tortilla, quesadilla). Spanish words has been used as early as the 1800 well before the rapid growth of Hispanic immigrants. Many states (e.g., California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to name a few) were part of Mexico until they were ceded to the United States at the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848 and many Mexicans became Americans and brought their language influence with them so that their language "rub off" into the English language.
