Most of the time you will want to capture in Full Screen with the app in Full screen mode.
On the Mac, you can access the Recorder in one of three ways any time Camtasia is running:
Press the Record button at the top/left of the screen.
Press Start Recording from the top/right menu.
Press CMD + SHIFT + 2 to start or pause the recorder and CMD + OPTION + 2 to stop the recorder depending on where you are in the recording process.
The Mac has a better and easier Recorder for with previews for screen, webcam, mic, and system audio with toggle buttons and custom settings for each control.
The Frame rate setting in the Recorder should be set based on what you are recording:
Full-motion (30 fps) – for fast moving animation or video which will take up move disk space.
Medium (15 fps) – instructional screencast or tutorial for mouse movement, etc.
Presentation (5 fps) – voice narration for PowerPoint slides, etc.
You can also record FROM a mobile device (iPhone, iPad) running iOS8 or newer:

Open an app and ensure device in the correct orientation. Camtasia currently does not allow device to be rotate during recording.
Connect device to computer via lighting cable.
If the photo app opens, uncheck the Open folder for this device checkbox at the top of the screen and then close the app. Do this for iTunes if needed as well.
In Camtasia, open the Recorder and select your device from the screen drop-down menu.
CHECK POINT: You should see a thumbnail of your device displayed. To see a larger view, click on arrow at the bottom of the screen area.
Click the Start Recorder button and wait for the count down.
Record your actions and then click CMD + OPTION + 2 to stop the recorder.
Name the recorder file and then click the Complete button.
CHECK POINT: You should see your project open up in Camtasia.
The *.trec format is used by Camtasia. However, if you need to use the video for another video editor like Adobe Premiere, then you need to set this to *.avi in the Tools Options.
