Settings in the System Preferences dialog box can be set so that users can focus on your content not your desktop or audio distractions. Many of these settings are one time settings so you don't have to worry about during them again.
Go to the Apple menu and select System Preferences… and then select the following options:
Desktop and Screen Saver – Select Solid Colors from the list and then select a neutral color (dark blue or gray) so that the background will be not a distraction. Under Screen savers, select Never to turn off the screen saver.
Notifications – select the From checkbox under Turn on Do Not Disturb section and set the From time to 11:59 PM and the To time to 11:58 PM to prevent notifications from popping up when you are recording. Also, you may have to turn off notification for apps on an individual basis by selecting them from the list and turning off all notification checkboxes for those apps.
Users and Groups – if you used your Twitter handler for your Full Name, click the unlock to make changes icon at the bottom of the screen and then enter a user name and password and then click the unlock button. Then, click the Login Options at the bottom of the list and then select the check box for Show fast user switching as menu name to Full Name so that your twitter handle can be displayed on the menu bar
Date & Time – click the Clock tab and then uncheck the show date and time in the menu bar checkbox so that they don’t show.
Accessibility – click the Display setting in the list and then click the Reduce transparency checkbox. Also, select Mouse and Trackpad and then select the Ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present checkbox.
Remove all unnecessary icons from desktop by selecting them and clicking the Delete button or placing them in a temporary folder or moving them to a second screen.
Dock - select the Automatically Hide and Show the Dock checkbox to hide the Dock until the cursor is at the bottom on the screen.
Additional options:
Hold down the CMD key and drag the icons at the top/left of the screen off the status bar. NOTE: You cannot delete the Spot Light or the Notification icon.
Remove any icons from the dock that will not be used in your movie by dragging them off the dock. NOTE: If you need to add an icon to the dock, click the Go menu and select Application (or press CMD+SHIFT+A) to open the application window and then drag the apps you want to add to the dock. Use can also rearrange an icon by dragging it to a new location along the dock
Open the Finder window and then select Finder > Preferences (or press CMD +,) and then in the General tab uncheck all the checkboxes to hide their icons on the desktop. Then, in the New Finder Window Show dropdown list, change the option to Recent so that every time you open a Finder window it will show your recent files that you have opened. Next, click on the Sidebar tab and uncheck all options except Recent.
